What's with the weird image?  Let me explain.

Think about the triangle as me, myself and I.  Existence on one shoulder, Relatedness on the other and Growth on top.  It's my version of Alderfer's Theory of Motivation.  By utilizing characters to represent each point, I can better visualize what goes on in my mind as I battle the noise that is life.  Pretty slick, huh?

          alderfer theory of motivation

Existence = survival.  My little red-headed girl provides unwanted advice...excessively so.  Don't eat this, don't go there, don't think that.  all she can say is "no."  I've named her Control.  Such a buzz-kill, but she keeps me alive and healthy...ish.

Relate = Social.  This beast provides advice - good, bad and ugly...excessively so.  All she can say is "yes". I've named her Chaos as there is nothing she won't consider doing, buying, eating, thinking...saying, the sky's the limit.  She gets me into such trouble.

Growth is my child. It is an actual photo of me at the ripe old age of one year.  I didn't regularly listen to growth for many years until one day I realized how external influences conspire to force Control and Chaos to compete for attention to the detriment of Growth.

News media, politicians, advertisers and marketers all target Chaos in the hopes Growth gets lost in the 2-way antagonistic battles between survival and relatedness.  Both Control and Chaos conive and manipulate using guilt and fear to force Growth to make detrimental 2-way decisions.

          • Buy this and you will live, be happy, desirable et al.
          • Buy that and you will die, be miserable, unhappy, undesirable

The end result is high debit, over eating and dependence upon "experts" to "help" make you decide to spend the bank and risk family and friends instead of using your own brain power to think critically about situations as they arise.   Growth is my vision of critical thought and the Joker in the center of it all is my Self the sum total of all three.

          So Now You Know

My passions are art: painting, crafting, sculpting and illustrating, public speaking at Toastmasters, and writing comedically. As you can probably tell, I keep my trio of nuts quite busy.   At this time I'm developing my Comedy Weapon.   My parents, both deceased, provide the perfect comedy foils.

betty bob combo Bob was a handsome genius with a great sense of humor, fantastic bass voice, actor of sorts who dreamt of becoming a music teacher...and then life happened and things changed.

Betty was a hottie, smart as a whip, a take-charge kind of girl who snagged onto the handsome genius on his way up...and then life happened and things changed.

A golden marriage turned bitter which ended up in such a manner, had it not been for poverty, would have rivaled the widely publicized "Johnny Depp and Amber Heard" split.

Join me as I rediscover my parents through humor.

          Life Disapointments

Life got turmultous for many years. Substitute teaching jobs required lots of traveling.  I remember living in tents from time to time as we traveled Route 80 from Des Moines, Iowa to San francisco and ultimately settled in Fresno CA.  The tent years we spent roaming the tamed wilderness of Northern California's Federal and state park systems.

          The Best Memories

I don't remember the reasons for the family living in tents in those days.  Convenience, between jobs, housing or just enjoying the great ourdoors? Who knows, I just remember the fun.  Blackberry bushes grew wild along the roadside, bushes virtually everywhere.  Mom sent me foraging for berries to make pies and jams. I'd pick buckets of berries and stuff myself till my hands and fingers turned purple.

My favorite years were the 5's and 6's that were spent playing among the giants, the enormous California Red Wood and Giant Sequoia trees. I spent my time catching poison oak, bothering banana slugs and searching for salamanders. The stream waters were always cold, pure and clear. For a time we lived in the apartment above the Post Office in the tiny town of Miranda on highway 101, Avenue of the Giants. Miranda got its name from a former postmistress around 1905. During my stay, I'd play in the woods within eye-distance of the house at all times or Mom would tan my hide. I'd look for Lady Slippers and Lilacs and was forever covered in Calamine lotion to sooth the burning of Poison Oak.

Then, I discovered a burn-pit in back of the house/Post Office where, every day, the postmaster would bring out their dead-letters and junk mail for buring. Curiousoty overwhelmed, I sifted through the envelopes daily hoping to find some treasure. Occasionally I'd pick up a penny, nickle or a dime. That's some serious coin for a kid when a candy bar cost 10 to 15 cents! Once I hit the jackpot and found hundreds of tiny Veteran license-plate tags that fit on keyrings. My past as a 5-year-old felon. i wonder what the statute of limitations is for 5 year olds rifling though dead-mail destined for the inferno? I swear your Honor, that Postmaster waited for me to collect my little treasures. My brush with history :-)

Scissorcraftblog started out as a place to post documents and images that I like to have on hand. So much easier than digging through files and folders and piles of assorted papers yet to be filed away in the storage closet.

          • Me: "Oh where did I put those originals to that over-sized-font Yahtzee triple score sheets?"
          • Me: "Ah yes, thankfully on the blog!"

I also post my favorites here in case others can find them useful. I share what I learn, what I like and love which grants me some assemblance of purpose, it makes me happy.

If you have bad eyesight you'll find the oversize score cards for Yahtzee very useful. Wayne and I play Yahtzee every day and with these old eyes, they really come in handy. Maybe you would like them too.

          Who Can Use My Stuff?

My craft patterns and activities are perfect for schools and other educational institutions. Young or old, scissor craft images are designed to educate, spark conversations, encourage questions, prompt further investigation of topics...and to entertain, always to have fun.

My love of art, illustration and learning encourages and inspires me to share with others.  I never know when a new topic or idea will pop into my cranium.

Simplicity is best. I like to keep the images simple, basic, easy to understand to leave room for the artist to embellish, improve, and not simply color between the lines.  Not that paint by numbers is not valuable in teaching numbers, following directions and being neat, it's just that PBN's don't encourage creativity IMHO. Grass doesn't always have to be green, sometimes it's just fine to use purple and pink.

I try to cover a wide range of topics and am constantly battling the urge to draw again!

Scissorcraft membership site contains over 40,000 personally illustrated images which I'm constantly updating to improve quality.   Once I begin to examine each image category - well all I can tell you is many changes, many replacements and many deletions ensue.

Most, if not all images, (hopefully) are available in grey and white format.  I chose grey and white because when kids use markers on images printed with black ink, the ink bleeds into the colors. This gives some finished products sort of fuzzy looking. Grey and white should not have that effect.   I also provide matching pre-colored format just for the heck of it.  It's possible some folks might have a use for quick and easy snowflakes,  ornaments or decorations and backgrounds in photo frames.

          Scissorcraft in General

The collection of images in "Scissorcraft for Children" started out very small, originally just a place to put images I would draw for my children and grandchildren. Since then Scissorcraft has ballooned into 40 thousand images at least and in no danger of stopping.

I believe all children, regardless of age, skill level, or ability, should have access to creative outlets to gain exposure to basic principles of mathematics, history and culture.
